LOUISVILLE, Ky – Attorneys from the ACLU of Kentucky and the Kentucky Democratic Party were unsuccessful in asking Jefferson Circuit Court to order polling locations in Jefferson County remain open past 6:00 p.m. ET. The decision comes after both parties filed suit on behalf of Kentuckians who live in Jefferson County and encountered extreme delays while attempting to vote today.
“The failure of the Jefferson County Clerk’s office to adequately prepare for this historic election is unfortunate, and could have been avoided,” said Corey Shapiro, Legal Director. “There was ample time to ensure the County’s ePollbooks were updated before the polls opened this morning, which would have eliminated the confusion and long waits so many voters experienced today.”
The ACLU of Kentucky encourages voters who are in line to vote by 6:00 p.m. to stay in line, and to call 1-866-OUR-VOTE should they experience any problems or barriers to casting their vote.
