The ACLU of Kentucky is partnering with Define American, a media and culture organization that uses the power of stories to transcend politics and shift the conversation around immigrants, identity and citizenship in a changing America, to host four special I AM A Kentuckian storytelling events October 27-29.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Define American founder Jose Antonio Vargas will speak alongside Kentuckians, sharing their experiences with the U.S. immigration system.
“I believe in the power of stories in transcending politics and changing hearts and minds about our nation’s broken immigration system,” said Vargas. “In 2011, in an essay published in the New York Times Magazine, I came out as one of the 11.7 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States. Since then, hundreds of people, both undocumented immigrants and their allies, have found the courage to share their stories.”
At each event, immigrants and their allies will have an opportunity to record their stories for the Define American website.
