"Unsurprisingly, in the face of a myriad of challenges facing Kentuckians, the majority party in the General Assembly is prioritizing the cultural wars. As in years past, they are choosing classrooms, our teachers, and our students as their targets. SB 6 focuses its sights on our college campuses. Newly filed SB 93 seeks to remove any training or efforts focused on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging from our primary schools. SB 93 also seeks to remove any language related to a trauma-informed approach in Kentucky K-12 schools. Our commonwealth sits consistently near the bottom when it comes to incidents of child abuse, literacy rates, and student performance in the United States. One wonders why lawmakers would strip public school teachers and school counselors of their ability to teach with a trauma-informed approach and promote diversity and inclusion in the classroom. The provisions in SB 6 and SB 93 are not new. We've seen them filed in other states as part of an anti-Black, anti-brown, anti-LGBTQ backlash to efforts to ensure ALL students have educational opportunities. Once again, the only 'divisive concepts' in the commonwealth are those being promoted by the Kentucky General Assembly."
