The following statement can be attributed to ACLU-KY Legal Director Corey Shapiro:
“Today we dismissed our lawsuit in which we had sought to extend the election rules set in the June Primary. Last week, we applauded the bipartisan plan that makes certain every eligible voter has multiple options to vote safely without putting their health in jeopardy. The new rules also remove unnecessary photo ID restrictions and provide relief for those unable to obtain photo ID during this pandemic, which only highlights the absurdity and cruelty of passing such legislation in April. The Secretary of State and the Governor have now approved the regulations. With the lawsuit over, we will move on to make certain the rules are enforced and interpreted appropriately so every vote counts.”
The lawsuit, Collins v. Adams, was filed in U.S. District Court in the Western District of Kentucky.
