Curtis lives in Louisville and has been engaged with the ACLU of Kentucky since moving from Wyoming in 2010.
Curtis passionately believes in the ACLU's mission of protecting and expanding civil rights and liberties. He was exposed to ACLU-KY's work when he was leading a statewide coalition advocating in the Kentucky General Assembly, where he saw the ACLU's legislative work on reproductive freedom, separation of church and state, LGBTQ+ equality, and justice reform. Curtis is especially proud of ACLU-KY's reinvigorated efforts to pursue policy goals through a racial justice lens and expand grassroots advocacy in all corners of the commonwealth.
He is involved with several other social justice organizations in Kentucky, including serving on the Board of Directors for the St. John Center for Homeless Men and being a member of the Economic Justice Committee of the Jefferson County Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC).
Curtis works at the Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) in Frankfort. Previously, he was Assistant Director of Louisville Metro Government’s Develop Louisville Office of Housing and Community Development and as Executive Director of the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky based in Frankfort. He earned his Master of Arts from Temple University and his Bachelor of Arts from Macalester College.
One fun fact about Curtis is that he got to meet Nelson Mandela in 1996!
