To celebrate recent advancements in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights locally and nationwide, and to commemorate the 2013 passage of Frankfort's anti-discrimination Fairness Ordinance this month, supporters in Kentucky's capital city are hosting the first Frankfort Fairness Celebration Saturday, August 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ward Oates Amphitheater, 520 W. Main St., 40601.

Frankfort Fairness will provide free beverages and dance tunes by local DJ Junie Redden, and Josephine Sculpture Park is donating free t-shirt tie-dying (folks should bring a plastic bag for their t-shirts). Attendees will be joined by several speakers on LGBT rights, including Frankfort Mayor Bill May, Franklin County Magistrate Marti Booth, recently married Frankfort resident David Fields, and Jesse Ruble of Central Kentucky PFLAG.

Representatives and resources from many local organizations will also be on hand, including the Frankfort Human Rights Commission, Simon House, Thorn Hill Center, Family Abuse Services, Sunshine Center, and Franklin County Women’s Shelter. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic lunch to share with family and friends.
