Public holidays celebrating confederate leaders should be replaced with holidays celebrating traditionally underrepresented people.

This legislation did not make it out of committee in recent years, but we will promote similar legislation this year. In 2021, Senate Bill 248 was proposed and would remove these holidays from the list of public holidays: Robert E. Lee Day, Franklin D. Roosevelt Day, Confederate Memorial Day, Jefferson Davis Day. It would have created a Women's Equality Day and replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous People's Day.
