Youth Rights Conference: April 23, 2011 Print E-mail
Friday, March 11, 2011, 3:27 pm

yrc_flyer.jpg The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky and the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice are hosting a Youth Rights Conference on April 23 from 9:30am until 3pm at University of Louisville. The Conference is an opportunity for high school students from across the commonwealth to come together and learn more about civil liberties.

The conversation at  this year's YRC will center on healthy relationships, comprehensive sex education, and access to nutritious foods. We will also have dynamic and inspirational keynote speakers Gaby Pacheco and Wendy Walsh. Gaby is a undocumented resident of Florida who has worked relentlessly in support of the DREAM act, a measure that would provide a conditional pathway to citizenship for undocumented students who go to college or serve in the military. Wendy has become an advocate against bullying after her 13 year old son tragically killed himself last summer following years of harassment because of his sexual orientation.

Not only will students have a chance to hear these compelling speakers, they will have an opportunity to meet like-minded advocates and activists from across the state. The entire conference is free and slots are filling up quickly -- if you are interested in coming you can register here.
