This conference is designed by and for high school students and young people under 18 from across Kentucky to become empowered by learning about their constitutional rights and how they apply. The conference will include a variety of civil rights and civil liberties issues that matter to young people. This year’s speakers include Mary Beth Tinker, who at age 13 was suspended for wearing a black armband to school in peaceful protest of the Vietnam War. The subsequent US Supreme Court case defined freedom of expression for young people; King Downing, director of the national ACLU Campaign Against Racial Profiling, and A special appearance by the New York hip hop group A-Alikes. The conference is free, but registration is required. This conference is made possible by a generous gift from Lawrence W. & Frankie S. Hager, Jr.
