William Sharp's legal career as a litigator spans almost 25 years, having served as both trial and appellate counsel at every level of the state and federal court systems in Kentucky. His career has been primarily devoted to public interest litigation and the defense of others' rights, either as a public defender representing indigent clients accused of serious offenses or as a civil rights attorney representing the ACLU of Kentucky and its clients from 2007 to 2017.
After detouring into private practice for a few years, William returned to his public interest roots as an appellate attorney in the Louisville Metro Public Defender's appellate division, where he also assumed lead counsel duties for several trial-level cases. He now relishes the opportunity to return to the ACLU of Kentucky to assist in its ongoing efforts to promote and defend the rights of all Kentuckians.
